- when I looked at how this was being implemented, I noticed functionality that was added to the AWS SDK earlier this year that records in the user-agent how credentials are acquired. So you can see in your AWS re:Invent Adds Credential Visibility, Identity Federation and New Security Controls
- Lambdas, and containers should be using IAM roles because they ensure credentials are temporary. The AWS SDK will check a number of places for credentials such as environment variables, files on disk, and How to Find and Remove Unneeded AWS Access Keys
